Bill Cobbs, actor known for his long career and varied roles, has died
Bill Cobbs died on June 25 at his home in California, according to family.
Actor Bill Cobbs, known for his roles in the 1991 film “New Jack City,” Reginald in the 2006 film “Night at the Museum” and a host of other television shows and movies, has died at his home in California. He was 90 years old.
A family member announced the actor’s death via Facebook on Wednesday.
“We are saddened to share the passing of Bill Cobbs,” Thomas Cobbs, his younger brother, posted on Facebook. “On Tuesday, June 25, Bill passed away peacefully at his home in California. A beloved partner, big brother, uncle, surrogate parent, godfather and friend, Bill recently and happily celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by cherished loved ones.”
“As a family we are comforted knowing Bill has found peace and eternal rest with his Heavenly Father. We ask for your prayers and encouragement during this time,” the post continued.
Cobbs was born June 16, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio. Before finding a career on both the big and small screen, he served in the Air Force as a radar technician, sold cars and worked at IBM. In his late 30s, he moved to New York to pursue a career in acting. He has appeared in over 120 television shows and movies since the 1970s, from “Good Times” to “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Ugh…my wife and I just watched The Hudsucker Proxy last night. We hardly ever watch movies. He played the sagacious clockworks manager (unseen savior) and did a brilliant job. RIP Bill Cobbs.
