I’m a native Atlantan and a Black woman and this bothers me in a way I almost cannot describe.
Not only do these Right Wing nuts not give a damn about a brain-dead Black mother and the child in her womb, but they used this young woman as an incubator just to prove a point.
Before 1973 actress Debbie Reynolds had to carry around a dead baby in her womb because there were no legal abortions then. For those who don’t understand, please know that a dead body is actually toxic. Finally around the 7th or 8th month, doctors finally aborted Reynolds dead baby.
The laws had nothing to do with this. It was the hospitals decisions. Instead of listening to sensationalized reporting, do your own research. Blame the hospitals. Blame the doctors. Place blame where blame where it is due. Doctors and hospitals are sending women home knowing they are going to die when they know they can legally treat and hiding behind a law that says they can make the decision. They know it.
The media needs to start reporting the truth and stop sensationalizing. The hospitals need to start doing their jobs and stop hiding behind laws that don't prevent them from treating. Lawmakers even stated the laws did NOT cause them to keep her life support.
I am angry over this, and I do not want to be insensitive. But If Adriana Smith had gotten the care she needed at the time she needed it, even causing her to end her pregnancy, would she be alive today to pursue having another child? Instead of her son Chance now in the world ""Expected to be okay"" without his mother to care for him.
I make those quotes as I did to underscore how little confidence I have when such words are tossed around. Who can with any certainty actually define what "Okay" will be for this little boy, particularly down the road.
There was no reason for her not to get the care she needed. Absolutely none. The hospitals need to held accountable. The media needs to start reporting the truth instead of sensationalatism.
I agree with you. For the people wondering who will care for the baby I would have to guess it was also partly the families decision to keep her alive so he could be born, they already lost her and I'm sure they wanted to save the baby, but this is turned into something about abortions and stuff.

This is the shit women go through.

I agree.
My goodness, now who takes care of the baby!? This is traumatizing for so many people involved

I am so disgusted by this. And I'm afraid that things will get worse.
